Many Thanks ~

To all those who were involved with the 2010 Ontario Senior Games – Actifest I want to express my sincere appreciation for the roles played in making this event a success.

To the participants whose efforts made the games enjoyable for other contestants as well as spectators the GOC is and will be extremely grateful. You are a perfect example of what this whole enterprise is all about and future games will benefit from your involvement. All we have to do now, as was stated in the closing ceremonies, is for each of us to go out into our communities and convince others to embrace a healthier life style. Congratulations and thank you for your presence.
All our volunteers deserve an enormous thanks for the splendid job they did. All 435 individuals joined together in a challenging operation and as a team came through with an excellent effort. The most pleasing thing to the GOC is that they were for the most part seniors helping seniors. Our volunteer motto was,” it is not only what you do or say, but how you make them feel", and you succeeded in this endeavour. From the games to transportation to entertainment to accommodation to food to guiding and many other chores you were exemplary. A special thanks is extended to the Oshawa Senior Citizen Centres from which most of the volunteers were recruited. We offer our thanks to all of you.
To the OSGA, their entire organization through the District Coordinators, our thanks is extended by the GOC for the assistance and communication that was constant, specific, and helpful, thank you. Our wish is that you grow and perfect the system you have in place and we are confident that, through the people with which we have dealt, you will succeed.
To the partnership the City of Oshawa had with the Ministry of Health Promotion and the SAO we thank you for your support and assistance without which these games would never occur let alone succeed. The SAO team, and the system that they have perfected, deserve our special thanks.
The City of Oshawa, Durham College and UOIT gave us facilities that were first class and an example for all games. The ‘athletes village’, that we were so adamant to achieve, is a model to follow. Not only did these two entities give us the facilities but their assistance in the process was invaluable.
Even within the economic setting we faced, we had sponsors who recognized the value of our senior games and the importance we play in our society. They came forth with financial assistance and value-in-kind without which we could not have accomplished what we did in putting the extra touches on these games. We thank all of them for their help.
As chair of these games my final thanks is offered to all the members of the Games Organizing Committee whose dedication and countless hours of work on behalf of the games earn my respect and appreciation. The City of Oshawa and the Province of Ontario owe them a good deal of recognition for the work they gave in service to others, true volunteers.
